"Priced as Marked"
by Amy K. Kilgard

November 10, 11am.
In front of the Disney Store, 400
Post Street, Union Square, San Francisco, CA.

"Priced as Marked" is the first part of a series of performance art interventions that will take place in Union Square (a popular tourist destination known primarily for shopping) in San Francisco, CA, USA. The goal of the intervention is to disrupt ordinary shopping behavior by encouraging unsuspecting audience members to think differently about their consumer behaviors. This performance will include layering multiple pieces of conspicuously marked corporate clothing (e.g. Disney apparel) and asking people as they leave stores to mark on my clothing the amount they spent and the items they purchased in the store. As the performance continues, the marking will become more conspicuous and the weight of the clothing more substantial. My body and clothing become more and more laden with the material and symbolic weight of consumer practices.
